President’s Update

By Mary Gross, FA President

Our full contract reopener negotiations have begun in earnest. Your FA negotiating team, Annie Ngo, Billy Gunn, dara, and I, have been engaging in weekly negotiation meetings with the District team every Wednesday since late October. Using the Sunshine List (see below) to drive our proposals, we engage with the District’s team (Charlie Ng, Wendy Stewart, Denee Pescarmona, and Tim Flood) where we present our interests, detailed proposals, and thorough rationale.

To date, your FA team has presented nine proposals, and we have reached tentative agreements on five of our items. Before we conclude the fall semester, we will have our final fiscal-related proposals on the table- Salary/COLA and Fringe Benefits. We expect these two items will take the most time to work through, but know that your negotiating team has done its research, run numerous scenarios, and always has the collective faculty’s best interest at heart.

Although we cannot provide specific details of the tentative agreements before the entire agreement is finalized, we can share that our sessions have been professional and engaging, filled with open communication and thoughtful inquiry. Your team will continue to work through the break and be back at the table in January.  Because of the extensive surveys and feedback received from all faculty and FA Council, we have plenty of guidance, goals, and goodwill that have been impactful in our strategy and direction. We thank you for your trust and confidence in us for this critical work.

We hope to reach a full agreement several weeks before the end of the spring semester, so that we can share the details of Contractual changes before going to a ratification vote by our membership by or before Final’s Week.

Although contract negotiations have been priority one, your FA Leadership and Council have continued their regular work on approving a new budget, developing a proposal for making legislative and/or political endorsements, attending CCCI’s fall conference, and welcoming FACCC for our fall Education Luncheon. Enjoy the full newsletter which presents some highlights of some of this work. And, as always, feel free to join us at a meeting or reach out anytime.

On behalf of the FA leadership, I wish you all a healthy, happy, restful holiday break. We look forward to continuing our work and representing you well in 2025.

Mary

FA President
